Dear Principal:

Vietnam Veterans of America, Westchester Chapter 49, is pleased to announce our yearly scholarship awards competition. These scholarships honor six outstanding individuals from our area and are accordingly named the Pete Lambert Memorial Scholarship, the Congressman Hamilton Fish Jr. Memorial Scholarship, the Peter T. McCauley Memorial Scholarship, the Anthony & Jonathan Shine Memorial Scholarship and the William Suddereth Scholarship. There are three awards of $500 and three awards of $250. Students, who are the children of an active duty veteran, will graduate high school in Westchester County this year and will be attending an accredited U.S. college/university or a technical/vocational school are eligible to enter the competition. Complete requirements are enclosed and should be reproduced for all applicants. We ask that you make this information available to your senior class as soon as possible.

 

We are a Congressionally chartered veterans service organization open for full membership to all whom served on active duty during the Vietnam War. The Chapter is involved in a wide range of activities that assist both veterans and our communities. Enclosed is a resume of these activities and a membership application that should also be reproduced for all applicants.

 

Please note that we have an Educational Task Force that is available to discuss and share their Vietnam experience with your students. Your staff can contact Dan Griffin, at 682-4949, to discuss format and make arrangements for the presentation; a brochure on this program is enclosed.
