Medical Problems

The Church in Tororo Archdiocese fights daily in its one hospital and seventeen Medical Units on a battleground where the enemy is cholera, malaria, cancer, tuberculosis, leprosy, sleeping sickness, typhoid, and lockjaw, compounded by the effects of malnutrition--all diseases of earlier centuries, to name but a few.  And then, if that were not difficult enough, we have reportedly the highest rate of AIDS in the world.  It is impossible to comprehend the situation, except through first-hand experience.

The archdiocese also supports village-based Community-Based Health programme provides basic health services including immunization and health education.  Much information is disseminated on HIV/AIDS through this programme.

The archdiocese realizes that much more needs to be done.  However, funding dictates the extent of the services provided.  It is traumatic to witness the heartwrenching moment when a mother realizes we do not have the facilities to save the life of her innocent child.
